4 Reasons Why Your Check Engine Light Is On

Check engine light is on | Autotrends

Our vehicle’s check engine light is one of many ways that your car can tell you that something is wrong under the hood. While it may seem like a big deal for this yellow indicator to illuminate, you should not stress or panic about it. As long as you have your vehicle inspected and diagnosed, you will be okay.

There are many explanations for why a check engine light may be on. Here are the four most popular reasons your check engine light is glowing.

Loose or Damaged Gas Cap

The gas lid is a small piece that keeps the fuel from leaking out of your fuel system. That way, toxic fumes don’t pollute the air and you don’t waste your money. A broken gas lid is one of the most common reasons for lit check engine lights. Luckily, it is an easy and inexpensive fix.

Bad Catalytic Converter

If the light is on for the catalytic converter, it is a rather serious issue. The catalytic converter is in charge of turning carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide. To ensure harmful emissions aren’t released, please repair your catalytic converter soon.

Faulty Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor is responsible for managing the unburned oxygen in our car’s exhaust. When they stop working, they can cause problems during the ignition process. With an unbalanced air-to-fuel ratio, your engine may burn more fuel than necessary.

Worn Spark Plug and Wires

These pieces are fundamental in getting your vehicle’s engine started. With damaged spark plugs and wires, you will experience misfires and poor gas mileage.

If you believe your vehicle’s check engine light is on for any of the above reasons, please do not hesitate to bring your car to Autotrends for diagnostics. Our professional techs will perform thorough inspections and run tests to ensure your diagnosis and repairs are accurate.
